Serious Security Risk in Office Copiers & MFDs
Since 2003, hard drives, found in most every personal computer, became a universal component of every photocopier and MFDs (multi-function devices) shipped. The technology greatly improved office scanning and copying tasks. But at the same time, it created a potential security time-bomb. Documents, whether copied or scanned, remain on the hard drive, whether you like it or not. When the device is replaced, typically every three to five years in the UK, thousands of pages of information leaves the building unnoticed. For fraudsters and the criminal fraternity, this has proved to be the ultimate free lunch. Incidents of fraud and identity theft have been linked to copier hard drives originating in Europe and North America and, by criminals as far afield as Africa and the Far East.
So what action should organisations take?
When a machine is scheduled to leave your building, City Docs will systematically remove all traces of data from your hard drives. When replacing your copier or MFD, we will work with you to identify a device from the Ricoh range that ensures the privacy of your documents both during and after the life of the device.
